Cole Joseph Parsons Before He Passed Away

A TRAGIC STORY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED...

On the night of October 20th 2004 a tragedy would unfold. Ryan Petrie asked Cole to go out with him for the drive to pick up his sister Amanda at the Metro Center for 9pm, Cole really didn't want to go cause he wanted to stay home and talk to his girlfriend on the phone, but Ryan being persistent for him to go with him, reluctantly Cole gave in and went along some where es the boys picked up a second passenger Chris Au-coin from Bedford. At 9;30 pm they finally got to the Metro Center and picked up Amanda and took her home and then proceeded to take Chris to Bedford. Cole must have moved over to the drivers side to let Amanda in cause he always sitting on the passengers side so he could see and talk to Ryan whom was his best friend. On the way from leaving Ryan they saw school mate driving a green Honda Prelude going from the Beaver bank Crossroads. He preceded to follow him tail gating do close that the other fellow (can not mention names as the other fellow is a young offender by law)couldn't see Ryan's head lights in his rear view mirror. I can just imagine that this would have upset Cole because he was a very precautions type of guy.The chase continued onto Mill-wood drive and then on to Beaver-bank Rd. When they got to Sackville Drive Ryan followed behind the other car but another truck come in between them so Ryan moved over to the other lane at the lights by Tim Horten's. This where the race began quickly accelerating both vehicles were beginning to pick up speed very quickly as both cars were light and could do so. Up ahead there were two people crossing the road they didn't realize that the cars were coming up on them so quickly,the girl ran and the guy that was with her had to jump out of the way of the speeding cars. In a split second Ryan slammed on his brakes trying to avoid the people and that's when the car he was driving went out of control going up and over the side walk and he tried his best to get the car back on the road but to no avail. The car struck the pole going 118 kms. This was told to me by the RCMP Traffic Officer after the investigation. When the car struck the pole going at that rate of speed it wrapped itself around the pole and caught on fire.There were many eye witnesses that saw the tragedy unfold before their eyes. It is something that all of them will never forget. Many people come to check to see if anyone was alive Ryan was knocked out as he was the driver and the car hit on that side .Cole was in the back seat also on the drivers side which crumpled like a pop can would if crushed. Chris Au-coin was the passenger in the front seat. Some one yelled call 911 quick, At this point the rescuers didn't know if anyone was alive after this horrific crash.The first ones on the scene were Dean M and Matt and Shaun Darby and his girlfriend who went to try to get a fire extinguisher from the Super store.But someone had gotten one from Wendy's Fast food Restaurant.They proceeded to the front of the car where Chris was sitting dazed and there were flames inside of the car . They got him out and proceeded to get Ryan out which was not as easy as his food was stuck to the floor of the car. Buy they managed by having to pull him out with no pants and shoes on . Then someone yelled there is a third person in the back seat "its Cole Parsons!" Some one tried pulling him by grabbing him by the shoulders but he wouldn't budge as his body was twisted in the wreckage. Cole was killed instantly as of the BLUNT HEAD FORCE TRAUMA!!!!. even if they could have got him out he would never have lived because of such an impact. The flames were getting intense and no one could get close to the car to even try to get his body out.Cole literally burnt uo in the car...Ryan was taken to the hospital with burns ,broken ribs,bruised kidneys and a punctured lung as told to me by his dad. Chris on the other hand got out of this wreck with only minor burns and was treated by paramedics at the scene.The other car that had been racing with him left and kept on going failing to stop at the scene of an accident. The next morning there were flowers and poems and pictures placed at the base of the pole which was blackened with soot from the fire in Cole's memory. No one could believe that such a thing could happen in Sackville but it did and it could have been avoided if only Ryan and the other person could have only have used common sense that night and not chose to speed and for acting like idiots they are both the cause of my son Cole Joseph Parsons death that fatal night. The RCMP responded quickly and when it was found out there was a fatality they quickly brought in the Special Crime Unit Investigators. This was only the second time this team had to be used and they did their investigation gathering all the fact very quickly. Many witnesses came forward to tell their story of what they had seen that fatal night and this all helped in the investigation. Because of this RYAN SCOTT PETRIE was charged with negligence causing death and recklessness causing death. Two very serious charges. The other person whom I cannot name because of the young offenders act was charged with recklessness causing death and negligence causing death and also for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Both were to appear in court in mid December.
